Creme Brulee French Toast

Ingredients

1 stick butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
6 (1 inch thick) slices French bread
5 eggs
1 1/2 cups half and half
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp orange liqueur (such as Grand Marnier)
Powdered Sugar (for dusting, optional)

Cooking Instructions

Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add brown sugar and stir until sugar is dissolved. Pour into a 9x13 inch baking dish and arrange bread slices over it in a single layers. Whisk together eggs and remaining ingredients in a bowl. Pour over bread, and chill covered overnight.

Preheat oven to 350°. Remove dish from refrigerator and bring to room temperature. Bake, uncovered, until puffed and lightly browned, 35 to 40 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.
